Essay about Tone in Drama Script
Tone, in written composition, is an attitude of a writer toward a subject or an audience. Tone is generally conveyed through the choice of words, or the viewpoint of a writer on a particular subject. Every written piece comprises a central theme or subject matter. The manner in which a writer approaches this theme and subject is the tone. The tone can be formal, informal, serious, comic, sarcastic, sad, or cheerful, or it may be any other existing attitude. A tone can be either positive, negative or, neutral and is guven through context clues such as setting and word choice.
Tone, in a piece of literature, decides how the readers read a literary piece, and how they should feel while they are reading it. It stimulates the readers to read a piece of literature as a serious, comical, spectacular, or distressing manner. In addition, tone lends shape and life to a piece of literature because it creates a mood. Mood is how the writer wants the the reader to feel and is generated through the setting, dialog and plot. Mood can either be positive or negative and like tone can change through the writing.
Without any further do, let’s start from Amy. The writers made Amy with many negative tone in the story.
From page 1, line 4
“AMY, a fragile beaten down by the world woman in her late 20’s, sits behind a window with a sad expression.”
The words 'fragile' is the way from the author to convey about Amy's life was never tough. She has to face the world with her weakness.
From page 2, line 5
“My life's complicated.”
The words ‘complicated' is the chosen word from author to explain that Amy's life was miserable.
From page 2, line 10
“Amy slams the door shut.”
From this diction, the author try to show the other negative tone of Amy because there are mood of madness.
We moved to positive by this unpredictable woman.
Page 4, line 15
“Well you can stay here until you remember.”
The author is explain about Amy's sympathy for George that have amnesia.
Let’s move to George's tone. In this script, George’s has the positive tone because from the dialog we know he always give support to Amy while she try to ended her life. Let’s find the diction.
From page 2, line 7
“Your eyes, have you been crying.”
This sentence show us the sympathetic of George to Amy. The author made George asking curiously what happened with her eyes.
From page 2, line 25
“George grabs Amy’s legs putting her feet on to his own shoulders.”
The author explain about George’s worries about Amy who already hang her body in the ceiling.
Now we move to the negative tone from George is about when George knocked the door of Amy's house with panic it shows condescending in negative tone words.
I think that’s all. If you see anything out of topic or anything you want to correct please let me know. I’ll improve it asap;)

The Implicit of AMY by Eric Chandler
https://www.simplyscripts.com/scripts/AMY.pdf
Hello there, welcome back. Today I want to share my essay about drama script entitled AMY by Eric Chandler. The story tells about the woman named Amy who was living alone with her terrible feeling that caused by her depression. You can read it first at the link above;)
In this script, I will show you about the author using implicit in his script. For your information, implicit is an adjective that describes some information that the person hints at but doesn't say directly. But also there is explicit, an adjective that describes information that is stated directly and clearly, without any questions about the meaning. Those types known as stylistic in literary works. Before we can say that the language is implicit we have to find the diction. More information, diction is the way we as a readers interprets the language when we act in drama play.
There are a lot of diction that shows implicit.
- "Rain pours down on a house." In this diction the word 'rain' is tells about sadness and 'the house' is representative of the character itself that living in a loneliness.
- "AMY, a fragile beaten down by the world woman in her late 20's..." In this diction the author tells the readers that the character Amy is like a fragile glass who has beaten down by the world or in another meaning Amy have delicate and broke able heart who defeated by overall in her life.
- "Let me go." (Amy P.O.V) In this diction the author tells the readers that the character is give up of her life, she wants to end up her life;suicide. So 100% the character is not going to another palce.
In conclusion, this script of drama by Eric Chandler has some diction that easily interprets by the readers to know the diction is implicit or have more than one meaning but it stated indirectly.

Point of View and Theme in Just a Load of Baloney by Kirsten James
In Kirsten James's script "Just a Load of Baloney" describe the different taste of sexuality of Toby, a slim teenager with short dyed hair that had punched by a skinny guy, Jared, while he was on the grass. Throughout the story, the author uses the third person omniscient point of view to describe the boy's surroundings and to show us both what he and the other characters are thinking and what is happening around him.
By using the third person omniscient point of view, the narrator can give us a detailed and unbiased description of his surroundings while still retaining part of the character's view of reality. "He is faggot!" We are given Jared's view of Toby's sexual orientation. Additionally, the sentence "Hassan leaves in a hurry. Toby looks annoyed as he watches him walk away." We can tell what Toby's feeling.
Those underlined words demonstrate a fine use of the third-person point of view. "He" is show us the character was talking about Toby. "Hassan & Toby" Kirsten James presents two characters from the third person point of view.
The theme of the story is shown mainly through Toby's relationship with other characters. Such themes that are well developed include social issue and non-Traditional theme; physical "He opens the desk drawer and pulls out a bulky sandwich loaded with baloney.", social "Toby and Hassan look at each other. Toby smiles, grabs Hassan’s arm and they take off down the hall.", devine "Allah forbids homosexuality. If I accept you, I reject Allah.", egoism "Don’t you touch me!", and organic "Wow. This homo stuff even sucks for you and your not even gay!"

Setting and Characterization of the story "Action Speak Louder than Words"
Action Speak Louder than Words
Hello everyone, in this occasion I will share my essay about setting and characterization about Jamie's story. Setting and characters is necessary used when we make a story. Jamie create a story with a simple plot that makes the readers easy to follow author's goals about the story.
The setting of time and place, it's a literary element of literature used in novels, short stories, plays, etc., and ususlus introduced during the exposition of the story. The setting of a story can change throughout the plot.
The setting of time is at a daytime, because it shown that the student is hiding with the teacher behind the desk, bags, folders, papers is still exist in the classroom and the corridor eventhough it seems worst because everything straggle everywhere. It shown at the intro which is said "Along the wide open, long corridor of this college lie piles of scattered belongings from students. Bags, folders, papers everywhere, it's like there was a sudden rush to get out."
The setting of place which is mentioned in the story, at the corridor, classroom, library of the college, and neighbour house. The statement of classroom is "Inside a classroom, desks and chairs have been kicked over and pushed out the way. Behind the desks lies another DEAD BODY..." The statement of another corridor is "In another corridor of the college is the exact same picture. Except in this one we can see BODIES lies on the floor. They're not moving..." The statement when the characters start the conflict in the library is "The black boots enter again. They're walking towards the entrance of the library. Just as they get there..." And the last place as a setting of place is neighbour house which the statement told by antagonist character "He couldn’t even hide himself.
Every time we would play hide-n-
seek it would be so easy to find
him. He would hide in the most
obvious places. A cupboard. A
wardrobe. Under the bed. Too
obvious. Whenever it was my turn to
hide I had much better places. One
of my favorites was my neighbors
house."
In In t story there are 5 characters which name is Aaron as a protagonist, Kevin as a antagonist, female as a flat characterization, Kevin's Mom and Dad as a flat characters too.
-Female-
The female is mentioned as a victim of Kevin's brutality.
-Kevin's Dad-
Dad in this story positively has strong effect for main character.
-Kevin's Mom-
The negative effect for main character because she was not even care about her child and it give huge effect for main character to be bad oerson in his whole life.
-Kevin-
As a antagonist character and also the main character because he was the trouble maker, Kevin play in a dynamic way, the author developt the character from nice person to be a bad person. The social culture like party and drunk in a nightclub is mentioned in the story "just last Friday I went out to this really cool nightclub.." Kevin has many problem in his life, his heart is full of madness and he got mental breakdown for a long time in his life. He tired of being neglected by his mother since his farher died, he try to tell everyone about his problem but there is never change his life at all. It make Kevin have decided to kill everyone who never taking care of him at the college.
-Aaron-
As a protagonist Aaron play in a static way, there is no development of the character, Aaron just accept what the antagonist said and do. Aaron is a teenager same as the other character that live in America with their social culture setting who likes party and get drank in a nightclub. "I was really drunk, that’s why I fell into the punch bowl..." In this story Aaron try to be friendly with Kevin who Aaron already knew that he has killed eveyone. Aaron feel sympathic about Kevin's life because no one try to be friend with him. But when Aaron start talking about not every bad things will be in our life forever it will be passed away, just walking forward "There’s times in life when we go through some really terrible shit. But eventually all the terrible shit is put aside and you move forward in life..."
The characters make progress in a whole story so it makes the story feel so real.

Action Speak Louder than Words by Jamie Press (Essay)
"Actions Speak Louder than Words" by Jimie Press the story drama that is winning my heart because it is bring me to the situation in the story. Jamie's writing have a great plot and make it easy for the reader to understand because he put the understand-able words or vocabulary that help whoever start studying English Literature. Jamie put more than one place and case, but in case when the main character tells about school makes me pretty bored because there is too long for me to read.
In this story Jamie used advanced plot and quite simple story of tragedy. The beginning of the story is tells about the worst condition of the college's corridor, the bag, papers, folders everywhere, in another corridor we can read there's not moving bodies lying on the floor, it means "dead." Jamie also lead us to classrooms and library, in the classrooms desk and chairs have been kicked over, push out the way, there is died body too behind the desk and some students with their teacher hiding from the main character, Kevin. Then in library, Aaron, 16th years old the second characters hiding underneath the desk and looks terrified. Aaron did not have courage to move from where he hiding.
Point of view of Aaron is the beginning of the conflict, there is female characters speak louder "Oh my God. Please, no, I don't want to die. Please. No!" But the sound of the gunshot "BANG" makes Aaron jump. In parallel female voice no longer present. Aaron is more terrified and his breathing more quickly. Aaron keep quiet at that time, but the the foot steps going too close to Aaron, when the footsteps stop, head appears and Aaron meet Kevin, the innocent boy.
Kevin, young man who still carry a gun in his hand started talking to Aaron, "Not bad, huh? It’s my Dads. He always tried to hide it in places that he thought I didn’t know about." Aaron keep hiding while Kevin talk. Awkward silence between them. Aaron doesn’t know what to say.
Kevin looks at Aaron and start to make conversation, the problem of the story is begin. Kevin told the school is unfair and worst place he ever knew he had the lowest grades in all subjects, and it causes by the teacher, in connection with situation Aaron bravely make conversation with Kevin to kill time until the cops come.
In eight-page-lenght of the story,
-Aaron-
Why don’t you and your Dad talk
with the school? Maybe they can
help you. I’m sure your Dad will be
willing to help.
KEVIN
(beat)
My Dad passed away.
Aaron is speechless. He’s not lucky today is he.
KEVIN (CONT’D)
He had a heart-attack when I was
ten. It’s just me and my Mom now.
AARON
Why don’t you get your Mom to help
you then?
KEVIN
(beat)
Because I hate her.
(beat)
We don’t like each other. She
doesn’t like me and I don’t like
her - period.
Kevin told that he was hate his mother because she never respect to him, In this case we know Kevin have mental breakdown because the family and his circle does not support him while he suffering to be better not only in school but also in family.
In the end of the story I feel sorry for Kevin because he thinks his life is not worth it to continued.
KEVIN (CONT’D)
What’s my life worth? Huh? Why am I
here? What did God put me on this
earth for? Everything in my life
has just been turned on it’s head.
People hate me. People screw me.
What did I ever do to them?
AARON
You didn’t do anything to them. You
don’t deserve any of that happening
to you. Nobody does. I know this
might now help you but trust me
when I say “it does get better”.
KEVIN
(chuckles)
Yeah, right, okay then.
AARON
It really does. There’s times in
life when we go through some really
terrible shit. But eventually all
the terrible shit is put aside and
you move forward in life. We’re
still young, we’ve got our whole
lives ahead of us. That’s what we
need to keep remembering.
KEVIN
You ever heard of the saying
“actions speak louder than words”?
AARON
Yes. Of course.
KEVIN
It’s never been more true. For
years and years I’ve told people
about my life. For years, I’ve told
people about everything but yet,
nothing happens. It’s like in
school. When a kid is getting
bullied he goes and tells a
teacher. That teacher would then
tell the bully to stop, even though
he says he will, he never does. He
just comes back and does it even
more. But if that kid who was
getting bullied never told the
teacher and instead turned around
and decked the bully with a right
hand then the bullying would stop
straight away.
(beat)
Actions....speak louder....than
words.
AARON
(beat)
Is that why you’re doing this?
Kevin doesn’t answer. He looks at Aaron. Awkward silence.
KEVIN
Go.
Aaron doesn’t quite believe he just heard them words.
Kevin anger getting bigger, he blame himself because he'd killed people in the school also he thought he failed at life. At the end he decided to suicide after Aaron leave.

“Aku lelah. Rasanya aku ingin
istirahat sebentar,” jawabnya.
“Rumah mu saja masih terlihat
dari sini, kau sudah kelelahan?” Tanya kancil keheranan.
“Maukah kau mencarikan
rumput segar untukku sekali ini saja? Aku lapar sekali,” pinta kerbau.
“Ya Tuhan. Malas sekali
sahabatku ini.” gumamnya. “Ya, baiklah. Tapi hanya sekali ini saja.” jawab
kancil seraya bergegas.
“Terima kasih, kancil
sahabatku!” teriak kerbau.
Kerbau berjalan kerumahnya. Dan tertidur. Sedangkan kancil
kegirangan.
“Aku haus sekali. Apa kau
ada air untuk aku minum?” Tanya kancil. Kerbau hanya mengangguk dan menunjuk
danau kecil di belakang rumahnya.
“Ini enak sekali, aku sampai
kekenyangan,” ujar kerbau sambil mengelus perutnya. Kancil pun kembali.
Alangkah terkejutnya, makanan yang ia bawa sudah habis tak tersisa.
“Kemana semua makanan kita?”
Tanya kancil.
“Oh, maaf kancil. Aku sudah
menghabiskan semuanya. Aku sangat lapar, kau bisa mencarinya lagi jika mau.”
Ujar kerbau. Kancil sangat marah dan tidak terima dengan kerakusan kerbau.
“Kerbau, mengapa kau tega
denganku? Aku susah payah membawa makanan ini agar kita dapat menyantapnya
bersama namun kau habiskan sendiri?” ujar kancil sambil menangis. “Mulai
sekarang, aku bukan sahabatmu lagi!” Bentak kancil seraya pergi meninggalkan
kerbau.
Setelah beberapa hari tanpa kancil, kerbau sangat
kesepian.
